Toonami schedule change on the rise... It's bad, it's very very bad
Normally I don't bring these things up before a news site of some kind puts up schedule updates (usually Toonami Infolink) but if there ever was a time to blow the whistle on a schedule change it'd be now.
Toonami remains 2 hours in the coming months but that 9PM-11PM time frame is in for some changes. The Naruto filler hour will continue from 9PM-10PM But the 10PM hour of new One Piece and Cell Games Dragonball Z is leaving at the end of March. That's right DBZ episodes that haven't been seen in about 4 years are gone along with brand new episodes of the good dub of One Piece. What's replacing them you ask? Brace yourself. Blue Dragon joins the block. I can't say I didn't see that one coming and it's easily going to be the most watchable thing on the block because what takes the other spot is of course... an extra showing of Bakugan. Seriously CN... what the ****. And with that, Toonami is dead and if it isn't then it SHOULD BE because it's clear CN considers it nothing more than the block they air anime on that isn't Pokemon. Hopefully they'll change their minds before this schedule comes to be about a month from now. I wont give more details than that but if someone at CN is reading this. I implore you to at least keep One Piece. Bakugan has enough slots lined up as it is.

I could see taking off the extra half an hour of Naruto but they need to keep One Piece on! Then again, is leaving for a while and then returning the only way to get a show promo for something other than Naruto? I've seen Bakugan, and instantly I thought of YuGiOh. It seems okay, I mean I've only seen two episodes. As for Blue Dragon, I have no idea what it is, so I'll have to look into it. I'm glad for a schedule change, but I wasn't expecting this!

Re: Toonami schedule change on the rise... It's bad, it's very very bad
Ok, my first response upon reading this was: "What the hell CN?! What the hell!?"
I remember reading that the 4kids One Piece got decent enough ratings to remain on the block, and I also remember reading that after the FUNimation dub started airing the ratings started going up a few weeks later. Good stuff for CN. So I decided to see if any of the grids I have access to have been updated. Sure enough I can confirm what Sketch posted. In April One Piece and DBZ will be replaced by Blue Dragon and EFn Bakugan. The one thing that allows any of this to make a bit of sense is the fact that One Piece starts repeating at the end of March. The last two episodes to air will be: "Legend of the Pirate Hunter" (3/22/08) and "The Rainbow Mist" (3/29/08), which is a shame because they're cutting off right when the Sky Island arc is getting to the best part. The only thing I can figure is, for whatever reason, CN has reached the end of the new episodes given to them by FUNimation, probably having something to do with FUNiâ??s surprise announcement that theyâ??re uncut DVD release will be starting on episode 1. So Iâ??m assuming at this point the FUNi crew is pulling double duty trying to redo the old episodes plus dub the new ones, falling behind in the process. Thus in CN's eyes in terms of ratings premieres of anything are better than repeats, and the pulling of One Piece. |

Re: Toonami schedule change on the rise... It's bad, it's very very bad
Well that lessens the blow a great bit (ugh... 4kids reruns) but they ought to just re-air the FUNimation episodes they currently have. Hopefully they'll do it at 10:30PM on weekdays for a stint or something but taking One Piece off the network entirely is a very bad sign for the property.
And the fact that CN believes the better course of action is to dump two tride and true action series in favor of Bakugan and Blue Dragon in the 10 hour when they could just put those on at 8PM instead of that hour of Goosebumps says more than enough... They don't think Toonami is worth expanding beyond those 2 hours anymore. Oh how the mighty has fallen.

Bakugan Battle Brawlers (a show that reminds me of Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! after both of those shows did a DBZ-style fusion) and Blue Dragon would have been just dandy in Goosebumps' hour timeslot. The choices/decisions CN makes these days baffles me. My brain hurts whenever I think about such things. So, I'll just end this post with the following quote: Quote:

I'm unsure whether to make this news explode on the Infolink or not. Is this meant to be hush-hush news (hence why I'm not seeing this posted at TZ)?

I can't believe it.......One Piece getting the shaft........to BAKUGAN?!!?!
Seriously, WHAT THE HECK CN?!!!?! You help FUNimation get the license and then you just shaft it's new to a fourth-rate piece of crap show....which isn't even airing new episodes on the block?! It's official. Toonami.....the block I've loved for so long......is dead. One Piece is possibly about to die, all because of CN's moronic move. Thank's a lot CN. EDIT: Sorry about that earlier, I was kind of tense over more than one thing at that moment. Last edited by Gamer99; 03-09-2008 at 05:42 PM. |

Re: Toonami schedule change on the rise... It's bad, it's very very bad
Could you just KNOCK IT OFF ALREADY?!! How dare you tell a group of people trying to do their job (which is all they're guilty of, greedy or not) to burn for all eternity, just because they make schedule changes you don't agree with? My apologies to the mods if this seems like flaming, but all of this boo-hoo-ing and temper tantrums over everything CN does has got me to a boiling point. If Toonami does go, then yes, it will be a big shame. However, as far I'm concerned, every last so-called "Cartoon Network fan" who took it upon themselves to insult and ridicule them rather than doing something about it (i.e. starting a letter-writing campaign and/or fanart contest) are just as responsible for CN/Toonami's "sorry state". After all, what's that saying? "Evil triumphs when good people do nothing"? Remind me, what has everyone done here that has truly helped Toonami again? Other than making fan websites? Or complants??? On Topic: I'm not certain what CN is planning for One Piece, but I have a feeling it has to do with Funimation getting the original episodes re-dubbed.

Re: Toonami schedule change on the rise... It's bad, it's very very bad
^ If I recall CN don't even respond to their fan mail (let alone listen to their fans), so writing letters is pretty much pointless, more or less. But then again, I was about 13-14 when I sent some form of letter. (Who am I to talk.. I haven't been much of a fan of CN / Toonami for a few years now.
)And at the very least.. This is a message board, and people are going to rant and rave about it. So, no matter how many times you suggest people to send in letters, you're going to get that many more people ranting about it on the message board. (Since this is a place to express opinions afterall) Perhaps Gamer did go a little overboard with it (And I'm with you, WW), but really, all you can do is leave it be. Quote:

This is certainly nothing that anyone should want someone to go to hell for, so I'll back you up there. However... it's not as if the Toonami fan community (and the CN viewing community) have done nothing. They've voiced our concerns in writing online and in the written word more often than anyone given them credit for. Plenty of people have also tried to directly talk to the networks staff through the comment submition for Jetstream, the Adult Swim official forums (which WS folks would at least be aware of) and even through direcd tly contacting network staff through e-mail, snail mail and instant message. I managed to talk to Jason Demarco once and only once and he wont respond to me any more. But I have left him messages along the lines of "will Toonami get the first two hours back?" and "what happened to _________ show?" All I got out of that was he said he was happy with the current on air line-up right around late 2006 and mentioned he enjoyed One Piece and The Prince of Tennis. And it's hardly fair to say those fans are just as responsible for Toonami's state because they couldn't stop CN from chipping away at it all these years. There are plenty of inactive fans who do nothing but complain and don't even have valid complaints (stupid stuff like.. "Toonami sucks, they should play Oultaw Star and Tenchi again") but the truly dedicated ones have not just sat idle. Jeff certainly hasn't, nor did Meteo (the guy we can all thank for bringing YYH back to CN to finish it's run) nor many other people in this country that wanted to keep Toonami alive and thriving. So watch your mouth. Not all Toonami fans have done nothing. Plenty have at least tried to change things for the better and those who haven't yet now have an excellent opportunity. A few voices here and there don't amount to much from the perspective of a network like CN. But a ton of voices at once can create a change for the better. At this moment we've lost the battle but we wont rest until we've won the war.

Well, I just put my letter in the mail-box. Mabye it'll get sent off tomarrow.
Sorry about some of those outrageous things I said, but I was in a really bad mood then, and I can get overboard sometimes. I've also edited my post to those it may have offended. |

Re: Toonami schedule change on the rise... It's bad, it's very very bad
I heard about the toonami change as well. Toonami looks to be crap right about now that they removed one piece from the 10:30 time slot and replaced it with bakugan for next saturday and Dragonball Z, will be gone next saturday after they show that episode "The fight is Over" and will be replaced by Blue Dragon, whcih I haven't seen yet, but I hope it will be good. I just hope toonami can get its rating to go high soon.
Good news guys, I just heard that Goosebumps will be gone from Cartoon Network after they show the last two episodes on the 22nd of March, Halleluja! I hope they can replace it with Megaman Star Force and I know you anime fans out there must have been waiting ages to see that, right? Scooby doo and courge will also be gone from the Cartoon Network lineup after their episode showing on the 22nd, but i don't know what they will be replaced with yet, but it better not be pokemon chronicles Why don;t they put yu-gi-oh gx or diamond and pearl in there, or digimon perhaps? May that will boost toonami's ratings up. Can't wait to see star force. It was on jetstream but I hope it will be on toonami along with rumors of NT warrior shown there too. An encore of Naruto: The Movie. I'm not sure whether this is just a one-time special or if it's the real deal, but I'm feeling pretty good right now. Last edited by Daikun; 03-16-2008 at 06:40 AM. |
