37th Annie Award Winners

AnimationInsider.net has the news: Annie Award Nominations

The domestic animation community once again aims to spotlight and call attention to the most successful, artistic, and creator-driven cartoons produced for television, home video, or theater. This year's nominations for each individual and studio achievements -- for the best in direction, writing, and storyboarding in television and movie animation -- are detailed inside. The feature film 'Coraline', for example, leads the pack with an incredible 10 nominations.

Yay: Coraline everywhere; even Astro Boy with a few nods; elimination of the videogame category; Dwight Schultz nominated in voice acting again

Nay: Lackluster TV animation offering due to weak year, relatively speaking

Re: 37th Annie Award Winners

Kinda hard to believe that Curious George beat out Futurama (though I love 'em both) and that somethin' called Pups of Liberty (which I've never heard of) beat out Robot Chicken's Star Wars special.

Do I detect a hint of bias against adult-themed animation in this year's winners?

And I really can't believe that Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs beat out Ponyo in the directin' category.

Ponyo was directed by Miyazaki for Godzilla's sake!

Oh well, still, aside from those a few others, it seems to be a very excitin' list. 2009 was a great year for movies!
