Toonami Acquisition News
According to ANN, Samurai 7 is coming to Toonami. The series is a futuristic remake of Kurosawa's legendary film... and like many GONZO titles, it looks fantastic, but has some narrative weaknesses (the dreaded slow start). FUNimation had an interesting release strategy for this series when they first started sending it to retail a few years ago (special features included reprinted storyboards in full, for example), but since the title never really took off with consumers, it kind of dropped off the map.

Interesting! Well. It's nice that their plan is not to rerun stuff too much (GITS and Bebop widthstanding), with a one-night-a-week deal that kind of stuff is rough. I know next to nothing about this title - so I guess it's new to folks like me...even if it's old to everyone else! Tongue

Jason DeMarco held a short Q&A on Twitter the other day, and one of the more interesting things (to me) to come out of it was that apparently Adult Swim OWNS the rights GitS...perpetually. With how long they've been airing Bebop I thought for sure that was the case with that title - but apparently I had it backwards.

I remember Samurai 7 airing on IFC years ago. All I can remember is that IFC's weird schedule kept me from getting into it.

I'll have no problem watching it now that it's coming to Toonami.

Also confirmed that Eureka 7 is returning to CN on Toonami:

Hmmm...might be a build-up to possible showing of new E7: AO series in the states?

Next up?

An expansion of the block (or...no repeating of the shows) to 6 hours and the addition of Sym-Bionic Titan and last year's Thundercats Reboot. Also Bebop is back.

Woo. Both awesome shows - both will add some much needed diversity to the block. Even if they aren't really...adult.

This is freaking awesome! Big Grin

Why all hour-long blocks for the last 3 hours, though? I'd think they would at least bring back Deadman Wonderland, or maybe another older Adult Swim show (Durarara!! never completed its second run). If they're willing to experiment with CN programming, why not another show like Batman: The Brave and the Bold or Young Justice? Heck, even Star Wars: The Clone Wars aired on AS before, so why not that?

There, I've just suggested plenty of shows that could fill up a whole 6 hours that wouldn't use up money, since the network already owns them. I'd really hate for the last three hours to remain stagnant like ASA was a few years ago; that would render this expansion pointless if they kept it like this.

Block expansion? No repeating of shows? I didn't see that coming.

They are sophisticated shows, which makes them "adult" enough in my book.

It's so nice to see that Tenchi Muyo! GXP is on Toonami. I last watched the series back when FUNimation shows were airing on the now defunct Colours TV.
