Quote:Apparently, Genndy Tartakovsky (Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, Star Wars: Clone Wars, Sym-bionic Titan) impressed Sony Pictures Animation with his directing on Hotel Transylvania. Variety reported on Monday afternoon that Sony has enlisted him again to direct a 3D CG Popeye feature. |

RE: Genndy is doing Popeye.
It's great that Genndy is getting work - because the guy is talented and deserves to be part of the industry. And it's great that he's doing features because ultimately that's what it sounded like he wanted to be doing all along...
...but I'm very concerned that he's attaching himself to these less-than-stellar franchises. None of them speak to his strengths as an animator. None of them have much space for Genndy to put his own stamp on them. And it remains to be seen if any of them will amount to much at the box office...but they're certainly not the 'talk of the town' when it comes to this year's animated flicks. |

I agree that with his magnificent work in television, it would be nice if he was attached to somethin' with a bit more stayin' power, but this might just be the start. Or perhaps he was the one who wanted to do these projects for his own personal reasons? |

I mean, more power to him if that's the case - my major concern is that these projects will flop and he'll loose his chance at making a film that is uniquely him. |
