The Ride of Your Life

Coming soon to store shelves throughout the country is one of the most thrilling dramas to come out of the Japanese digital animation industry. From the farthest reaches of the pencil drawer and the deepest ends of the human psyche, comes the well-wrought tale of a man seeking vengeance in the slyest of ways. Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo as distributed by Geneon Entertainment come the end of the month of October will break open western fandom's exposure of the anime industry so that fans are exposed to digital artistry like no other. On into the mind of Alexandre Dumas' brilliant novel, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo is both a visual masterpiece and a time-honored tale of dramatic eloquence.

There once was a man named Edmond Dantès, he had many friends, he was in love; but one day, when the sun did not shine so bright and the kindness of the blue sky felt as dampened, he was cursed to the far ends of the universe… and his psyche. It wasn't until he was able to reconcile with himself that the only way to rest in peace was to seek retribution for what betrayals and relational incongruities belayed him whilst he was a significant social figure. Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo continues as Dantès, now reborn as the Count, searches the known universe for the individuals responsible for the damnation of his soul, with hopes of setting right all of the evils that were at once so horrible done to him.

The Count of Monte Cristo is a wealthy, sly, oftentimes brooding, and inevitably mysterious man whose very speech offers an ambiguity unlike most jaded aristocrats he so claims to be of similarity. This façade however is taken full on as the unequivocal truth by a fifteen-year-old aristocrat named Albert--an impressively confidant young man who is about to discover the value, and conflict, of breaking out into one's own and going against the grain of a society well in tune with its own agenda. Albert comes into contact with the Count's cool pretense while attending Carnivàle--a traditional citywide celebration--but only after getting involved with a few back street vagabonds first. Thanks to his quick thinking friend, Franz, Albert is rescued by the strength and cunning of the Count; and what will ensue is the relationship between a boy with a strong will, and an old soul with some hunting to do.

After the production of countless plays, theatrical presentations, and other novels, this particular adaptation of Dumas' classic will ring uniquely within the minds and hearts of anime fans everywhere. Distributed by Geneon Entertainment, the first DVD release of Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo, "Chapter One," will be released on October 25th, 2005 for $29.98. "Chapter One," which will contain the first four episodes of the anime, will also be released with an Artbox (to hold future DVDs in), for the price of $39.98. Full of adventure, romance, and everything else associated with a great story about lost loves and forbidden desires, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo is without a doubt, one of the most highly anticipated anime releases for the up and coming 2006-year.
