Old School

The Zelda franchise has remained the backbone of console gaming for decades. It may be true that gamers may be sulking over the fact that they must wait an additional eight to ten months for the most recent installment, "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess" (Nintendo GameCube). However, those video game fans will nevertheless be glad to hear that the short animated series from the late 1990s will be coming to DVD this fall season. The Legend of Zelda: The Complete Animated Series has been scheduled for a DVD Set release courtesy of Shout! Factory, and will surely be a great source of enjoyment for old school gamers and animation fans alike.

It isn't every decade that video gamers get the chance to see their favorite action and adventure heroes take to the fully animated form. The Legend of Zelda (1989) was inspired by the game franchise's original ventures throughout the land of Hyrule, and chronicles the journeys that young Link undertakes while putting a stop to the evil one called Ganon, whom for the life of him, has been trying to secure the power of the Triforce for himself without success. The incredibly popular saga of a young boy who must save his homeland, stop an evil wizard, and of course, save the princess, as encapsulated in the now classic animated television series The Legend of Zelda, is perhaps one of the best ways to relive the remarkable action and adventure of the Zelda franchise.

The Legend of Zelda: The Complete Animated Series continued the undisputed success of the breakout gaming franchise, and once released this fall will continue to revive support for the groundbreaking series. The DVD release, from Shout! Factory and DIC Entertainment will contain three-discs total, with all thirteen original episodes of the animated series as well as an abundance of DVD extras as well. Bonus features will include a Legend of Zelda trivia/quiz featurette, two games, a downloadable character sketch gallery, and much more. The Legend of Zelda: The Complete Animated Series will be available on October 18th, 2005 for $29.98.

Animation fans looking to broaden their collection of classic cartoons look no further than this particular DVD Set release. Available on DVD for the first time, this thirteen episode animated series originally aired in 1989 in conjunction with the rising popularity with the Nintendo product releases. Airing on Friday afternoons as a segment on The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, a television broadcast program, The Legend of Zelda had its moment in the limelight as an animated series, but still remains a memorable program to several nostalgic fans.

While the DVD Set includes five The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, original live-action wraparounds featuring "Captain" Lou Albano, Danny Wells, and several others; gamers and animation fans will certainly be glad to find one of the lesser talked about classics up for a solid DVD release.
