In this episode, the North Pole tribe of Waterbenders is in danger of being attacked by the Fire Nation, led by Commander Zhao. His plan, as he has considered destiny, is to destroy the moon spirit.
Aang tries to do what he can to stop the huge team of fire nation troops from getting close to the tribe, but the large count of fire nation ships along with troops are too much for him to do alone. Aang comes up with the idea of contacting the spirit world in order to figure out what must be done to save the tribe and keep the fire nation from succeeding in there plans for destruction and control.
While Aang is attempting to cross into the spirit world, Prince Zuko manages to sneak into the North Pole water tribe's sanctuary, and kidnaps Aang while he's still in spirit contact mode.
Meanwhile in the spirit world, the Avatar before him tells Aang that he must go and talk to a creature whose known to steal the face of anyone that shows any kind of emotion. After dealing with the creature, Aang ran into a familiar spirit, "Hei Bai" the black and white spirit, and the spirit guided him to the exit out of the spirit world.
When Aang woke up from what seemed like sleep, he realized that he was captured by Prince Zuko, so Aang attempts to escape and with a bit of airbending and some of Katara's near-mastery of Waterbending, Prince Zuko as a result ends up unconscious at the end of a quick battle. Before leaving Prince Zuko behind unconscious, Aang decides to take him with Sokka and Katara and
Meanwhile, Commander Zhao makes his way into the North Pole tribe sanctuary, and decides to tamper with the Koi fish, causing the Moon and practically the whole sky to go into a shade of red, causing the life force around the Waterbenders of the North Pole and Aang to become slightly weaker. Commander Zhao kills a Koi fish that was the Moon spirit, but Aang manages to save the day by connecting through the spirit world again in such a way that causes the Fire Nation to be defeated at least once more.
It was the scenes dealing with the face-stealing creature that assisted in making The Siege of the North Part 1 and Part 2 both very exciting and creative. As you watch Aang handle the situation, it is as if you are watching a movie, and there were several parts that could make someone jump because you put yourself in a rather weird and unnatural situation.
As for the fights, we see Katara fighting, and fighting quite well! Her battle against Prince Zuko was very interesting, and it is evident that she has been practicing her Waterbending techniques for a good while. Aang is also growing up as far as the strength and ability to fight against those who threaten the existence of others. The characters as well as the progression of the story will make the next season of Avatar even more interesting to watch.
