MIPTV 2011 News || Grimm Studio & 'Cobot'

Seoul, South Korea-based Grimm Studio was officially founded in 2008, but claims to use a stable of animators and produces who have been working together for more than a decade. As a result, the animation production outfit is home to a familiar and resolved corps of CG specialists who dabble in the usual array of service work and original property development. Grimm Studio heads to MIPTV 2011 looking to promote its talents in addition to spotlighting their newest project: Cobot.

Grimm Studio has some skill worth mentioning. The company works on gaming cinematics and film visual effects, providing movie-version flairs to RPGs with in-game combat adventures or hyper-realistic character drama. On the small screen, Grimm Studio's work is evidenced in the international co-production Cosmic Quantum Ray, a few preschool programs, and their homegrown CG property Cobot. The last of these is a children's title about a group of tiny robot characters acting as guardian to a luckless kid.

Cobot (52x10) is about a kid named Wan.... who probably has the worst luck. He's always making mistakes at school and usually has a hard time when playing games with his friends. Depressed and tired of always being made fun of, Wan feels like he's running out of options. Fortunately, someone's looking out for him. So the story of Cobot goes, little characters visit to let Wan know that he's destined to do great things some day. The little characters, Cobots, do their best to protect him and keep him safe (e.g., from falling down an open manhole in the street).

But these miniature guardians, who claim to have come from the future, are also charged with keeping Wan safe from another group of little robot characters. Fighting against the Cobots are the Cobullots, who have come to Wan's home to obliterate any chance there is of the boy becoming a great leader in the future. As a result, the Cobots and the Cobullots do battle, usually in strange and humorous ways. Grimm Studio's Cobot is a simple and lighthearted CG property produced in stereoscopic 3D that will hopefully serve as a solid jumping-off point for the animation group as they look to make the most of their splash of original content.
