Born in New York, he wrote radio comedy shows for such classic comedians as Milton Berle and Danny Kaye. In 1946, Kaye brought him to Hollywood, where he became a writer for shows including Our Miss Brooks, Bachelor Father, I Dream of Jeannie, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, Julia, Nanny and the Professor, Mona McCluskey and The Doris Day Show.
Alsberg began a 25-year writing partnership with Don Nelson in 1972, when they created, wrote and produced the TV comedy series Bridget Loves Bernie. Alsberg and Nelson became story editors for the 1985 incarnation of The Jetsons as well as The Flintstones Kids, a 1986 series which ran for two seasons on ABC s Saturday morning lineup. They also wrote for the crossover special The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones, which aired in syndication in 1987, and for Tom and Jerry Kids Show, which ran from 1990 to 1993.
On his own, Alsberg wrote for the theater. His play Happiness is Just a Little Thing Called a Rolls Royce was produced on Broadway in the 1970s. Teaming up at Disney Studios, Alsberg and Nelson wrote such features as Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo, Hot Lead and Cold Feet and Gus.
Alsberg taught screenwriting for many years at Cal State Northridge. He helped found the Writers Guild of America's Open Door program. He spent eight-hour days writing plays during his last years.
Arthur Alsberg is survived by Ellie, his wife of 48 years, and by four children, 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
