Organized by the Creative Talent Network, a compact hub of disciplined animators, CTN-X should fulfill many functions: such as providing a snapshot of the current state of freelance work, learning to craft the perfect pitch, the basics of production design, and developing genre-specific cartoons, among other topics. According to event organizers, if you're there and can't find anything worthwhile.... wait around for thirty or forty-five minutes, and something else is bound to pique your interest.
The three-day event promises a diverse assortment of must-attends. Notable peakers include: Tom Sito (writer), Mike Mignola (comics artist), Ellen Ann Mersereau (entertainment attorney), Gary Goldman (animator, director), and Steve Kaplan (comedy writer), among dozens more.
Key panels at the event include: "1+3+5 = The Making of 9," a chat with award-winning production designers and art directors, moderated by Aaron Simpson (Cold Hard Flash); "The Secret Behind The Secret of Kells," which will include film director Tomm Moore in discussion with studio producer Paul Young, moderated by animation historian Charles Solomon; and "Anatomy of a Hit Series," moderated by Ramin Zahed, the Editor-in-Chief of Animation Magazine, in discussion with Disney TV animators and executive producers Jeff Marsh and Dan Povenmire (Phineas and Ferb), and Jamie Mitchell and Ford Riley (Special Agent Oso)
CTN-X takes place at the Burbank Marriott Convention Center (Nov. 20-22, 2009).
"Great ideas and meaningful connections happen most often in the hallways and casual gatherings of creative and talented people," Tina Price, founder of the Creative Talent Network, commented.
"Jobs come and go and projects fail or flourish but the one thing that remains constant is the talent is still talented."
