The Octonauts are a group of eight unabashedly adorable (but somehow impeccably brave) animal pals who scour the high seas for adventure. Exploring giant bodies of water aren't without their risks of course… finding incredible new underwater worlds or attempting to resolve some of the most intriguing mysteries of the watery deep often send the team into conflict with others. The television series, produced with computer animation, looks to replicate the cute-but-confident aesthetic of the ongoing book series, designed and authored by creative duo MEOMI (Vicki Wong and Michael Murphy).
The eight animals of the Octonauts are under the order of and include Captain Barnacles Bear (a valiant polar bear), Lieutenant Kwazii Kitten (a daredevil kitty cat), and Medic Peso Penguin.
Combining environmental adventure and exploratory fun, The Octonauts is aiming for preschool audiences, combining it's creator's indubitable penchant for cuteness with the pressing need to emphasize independent adventure for early education programming.
"The Octonauts is the series that we are eagerly awaiting," Dominique Poussier, Director of Children's Programs, TF1 (France), commented. "It is so innovative and original, and unlike anything we have on air. It will be a valuable addition to our line-up for 2010 and we look forward to sharing it with our audience."
Equipped with the latest on Octonaut technology, the group makes solid use of their sea vessels and undersea, mobile habitats to bring them as close to the action as possible. But for all of their gadgets and talents, the Octonauts will reportedly emphasize companionship above all else, in their search for adventure. The computer animated series The Octonauts is currently scheduled for delivery sometime 2010 through 50x11 episode arrangement plus one 22-minute special; production is fulfilled by Dublin, Ireland-based Brown Bag Films (Olivia). The series is executive produced by Stephanie Miller and Kurt Miller. Pre-sales include CBeebies (UK), TF1 (France), and ABC (Australia).
