A rather new studio with some rather experienced producers at the helm, Lincoln Butterfield Animation is preparing for a rather meaningful 2009. Having already gained support for animation projects for both tween and even more mature demographics, LB Animation is looking forward to next year's schedule of industry events where they can showcase the progress they've made in developing a fun and original slate of programming. Having already nailed down a distributor for their tween title Tan with PorchLight Entertainment [recent A.I. news: "Lincoln Butterfield Animation Gains Distributor" (07/2008)], the studio is looking to wow potential production partners with another new series: R.I.P. M.D..
R.I.P. M.D., a comedy about a curious but skilled young boy whose uncanny knack for repairing things lands him the position of monster doctor, quite literally, will officially launch in January at NATPE 2009 in Las Vegas. The National Association of Television Program Executives, perhaps best described as an ongoing demo room for domestic and international producers to exhibit their latest technology and gewgaws, the NATPE 2009 event will also sport a solid variety of animation studios. Lincoln Butterfield, for that matter, is planning to offer the first look at R.I.P. M.D..
The animated series documents a boy who learns that monsters are not only real, but that they have the same medical needs as humans. After all, when a vampire bat needs a broken wing mended, who is he to turn to? Why, the monster doctor of course; friend, confidant and protector of those that go bump (and injure themselves) in the night.
"When Mitch [Schauer] initially shared the R.I.P. M.D. concept with us, we knew that we needed to develop this wonderfully unique series," Robert Hughes, Lincoln Butterfield's Co-Founder stated. "We believe the television landscape is ripe for a new, somewhat twisted and--more than anything--fun monster story, and we look forward to introducing NATPE attendees to our newest animation concept next month."
"When you look at the issues people face in every-day life, wouldn't the same hold true in the monster world?" Schauer explained. "I mean, who doesn't have problems? In R.I.P. M.D., monsters get hurt, sick, and depressed just like humans, and this series finds humor and a fun protagonist to help them."
The NATPE 2009 event takes place in the final week of January. NATPE is a global, nonprofit organization dedicated to the creation, development and distribution of televised programming; a vow that many studios, such as Lincoln Butterfield, hope to exploit come the new year. With Mitch Schauer pitching clever new animated titles, the producer's experience in creating Angry Beavers and further working on Bobby's World and several others lends a sound creative confidence to LB Animation's latest efforts. R.I.P. M.D. (26x22) is currently a tween-targeted program.
on Lincoln Butterfield: Lincoln Butterfield's (www.LincolnButterfield.com) principal belief is that properly developed, produced, and marketed animation, whether 2D or CGI, can reach an even broader audience than exists in today’s markets, increasing its worldwide reach and profitability. While appealing to any specific age group can certainly be profitable, Lincoln Butterfield is committed to the concept that animated entertainment should appeal to the broadest viewing audience possible…the entire family.
