The Legend Returns One More Time

Again landing at retailers this month is another installment of the 2002 animated television production He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Battling through and across several fantastical lands of intrigue and adventure, this production of He-Man lore has finally reached the end of its domestic release with its August release under the BCI Eclipse animation label. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Volume Three was recently made available for consumers this week and includes the final thirteen episodes of the television animation.

Featuring primary animation production by Mike Young Productions, now a MoonScoop Group company, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe carves another slick, familiar rendering of the classic 1980s fantasy hero. In Volume Three -- 286 minutes, $26.98, now on sale -- King Hssss and his Snake Men attempt to conquer Eternia, and pose a serious challenge to the Masters and their allies. New villains, such as Hordak, the evil former master of Skeletor, arise amidst the chaos. Meanwhile, He-Man ventures to finally learn the legend behind his historic power and its connection to the renowned warrior, King Grayskull.

Packaged along with the traditional mix of exclusive extras and bonus features, Volume Three sports audio commentary and available scripts for episodes #27 through #40. The final episode, #40, it should be noted, was never fully produced, but only scripted. As a bonus feature for this domestic release, the distributor of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe has assembled a "full-length digital comic book adaptation" of the episode for browsing. Val Staples and Emiliano Santalucia, producers and artists of a comic book series based on the cartoon, created the feature. Additional features for the third and final DVD volume of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe are as follows:

  • The original "Morals" segment for episodes #27 through #39
  • Five Audio Commentaries
  • Extended Video Commentary
  • Interviews with toy line designers and marketers from Mattel and The Four Horsemen
  • Three Image Galleries (Character Profiles, Backgrounds, and Unseen Production Sketches)
  • Complete Animatics of three episodes
  • Two Masters of the Universe Collectible Art Cards by acclaimed comic book artists Chris Bachalo and Jason Shawn Alexander
