Mose Moves Closer to Release

The up and coming animated television series Geronimo Stilton continues to peek its head in the news, anticipating a domestic release date still several months off. Based on a series of wildly popular children's books that incorporate mystery and adventure with the basic needs of child literacy, Geronimo Stilton tracks a newspaper editor whose exciting capers have thrilled young readers. The television animation currently in the works has since been taken under the wing of brand management and distribution group Taffy Entertainment [related A.I. news: "Taffy Ent. Becomes Guide for 'G. Stilton'"], whose extensive catalogue includes Code Lyoko, Pet Alien, SamSam and Bobby's World.

Currently published in chapter books in roughly thirty languages around the world in some way, shape or form as per the original rights holder, Atlantyca Entertainment, Geronimo Stilton follows a mild-mannered mouse of the same name, whose quiet life as a newspaper editor is often turned upside-down when tales of intrigue and suspense take him on journeys around the world, solving mysteries and the like. The property went into development for a full animated television series last summer [past A.I. news: "'G. Stilton' Animation News"], and is currently projected as a 26x22 program that is slated for debut in the 2009/2010 broadcast season.

The Geronimo Stilton television animation has also just found its first broadcast pre-sale, with Radio-Canada. A national broadcasting group in Canada, Radio-Canada should provide a good home for this adventure series that could have quite a far-reaching, international appeal – much like its print counterpart.

"The Geronimo Stilton books are loved by kids in Canada and around the world, so we wanted to bring this wonderful new TV series to our young audience," Cécile Bellemare, the Director of Youth, Family and Lifestyle Programming for Radio-Canada, commented recently. "We anticipate Geronimo and his friends will be welcomed in homes across the country for many years to come."

According to Paris-based Taffy Entertainment, current co-production partners for this animated venture include Atlantyca Entertainment and Moonscoop Productions, in association with Mike Young Productions -- a MoonScoop Group company. "Radio-Canada is an ideal home for the series," Lionel Marty, the President of Worldwide Sales for Taffy Entertainment commented. "They already have a strong lineup of fantastic shows and I’m sure Geronimo Stilton will be a perfect fit."
