Evil Cat Animation in Production for Jetix Europe/YTV

Coop is the king of his domain. He's only a ten-year-old boy, but life is ideal and he does just about anything and everything he wants, which pretty much keeps it that way. One-half of the up and coming television animation Kit vs. Kat, Coop doesn't really have many, if any, enemies; and it's this inherent naivete that sets up the boy for what will surely be a fight for his life. Recently given the greenlight to move ahead into full production at Studio B Productions (Ricky Sprocket, PUCCA), the new animated television series Kit vs. Kat sets up young Coop against his most formidable foe: a cat, named Kat.

When Coop's spoiled younger sister, Millie, falls in love with a stray cat (Kat) that seems to have come from origin-unknown, Coop's life quickly turns quite sour. Millie brings the kitty home and much to the boy's displeasure, it seems that Kat has an unnaturally strong detestation for him.

What follows is an all-out war between the two; it's clear to Coop that the kitten wants to destroy him, but unfortunately for him, any evidence he has to prove the cat is evil is somehow eliminated. And so, it's up to Coop to survive the plans for his demise at the paws of Kat, all while doing everything possible to implicate the feline.

Handling a great deal of the work for this new title will be Studio B Productions, a noted producer of children's cartoons who was recently acquired by DHX Media, Ltd., an international producer and distributor of TV programming [related A.I. news: "DHX Media Acquires Studio B Prods., Inc."]. Already underway at the Canada-based animation studio, Kid vs. Kat (52x15) is the brainchild of Rob Boutilier and according to recent reports, is also at the center of a new deal with Jetix Europe for international broadcast. Though not scheduled to hit the airwaves until early next year, Kid vs. Kat should be an interesting animated comedy to look forward to.

"We are excited to be part of the Kid vs. Kat adventure with the Studio B team," Marc Buhaj, Senior Vice President Programming, Jetix Europe, said in a statement.

"The series has those quality cartoon elements found in the classics -- great music and score, neat characters and crisp slapstick timing."

"Our main duo of Coop and Kat are set to establish one of the great ongoing cartoon rivalries. One unlucky kid with one freaky, ferocious feline creates absolute mayhem that Jetix kids across Europe will love."

The television animation is being produced in association with Jetix Europe and YTV, Canada's leading children's entertainment broadcasting group. Jetix Europe holds the distribution rights to the program in Europe and the Middle East, inclusive of Pay TV and Free TV distribution, as well as home video & consumer product rights. Meanwhile, Disney-ABC International Television will service the distribution of the television rights to Kid vs. Kat for the Jetix Europe held territories. Kid vs. Kat will debut on Jetix Europe's channels from early 2009.

Blair Peters, Executive Producer, Studio B Productions Inc., commented: "We are very excited to be working with Jetix again on this super cartoony, action packed series. The creator, Rob Boutilier, has brought his wit to a number of other productions with Studio B and we are delighted to have him at the helm of his own series."
