Taking place in an old and decaying metropolis called Treasure Town that is ruled by the youth, Tekkon Kinkreet itself is a story of conflict. Treasure Town is a paradise for those eager to exercise their right to influence anyone and everyone within a fist's reach. The city, though full of individuals whose fates have somehow been lost since birth, is nevertheless the only place some may find a sense of brotherhood. For the two main characters, Black and White, trust is many times bitter and violence is often expected on the streets and in the gutters of their dynamic city. It wouldn't be a stretch to assert that the largest threat to the inhabitants of Treasure Town, are themselves.

But as the anime film Tekkon Kinkreet progresses, new threats appear. Land developers from outside the region have entered the city and are searching for angles and assets with which they would use to rule Treasure Town, prying it away from the hands of its current inhabitants. However decaying the metropolis may be, it is still a home to many.
Tekkon Kinkreet's conflicts of progressiveness, old-world ambition and cultural isolation serve as unique points of emphasis that the film's viewers have often linked with real-world Japan as it exists today.
The theatrical presentation will be available on DVD, UMD/PSP and high-definition Blu-ray on September 25th, 2007 for $26.95 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Tekkon Kinkreet is a story of progress, the lack thereof and so much more. The film is rated "R" for language and violence.
A tough, gritty and yet still very pure anime film produced by the reputable Studio 4°C (Steamboy, Spriggan), the feature animation was directed by Michael Arias (The Animatrix). Promoted as the first major theatrical anime production directed by a non-Japanese, the anime film Tekkon Kinkreet has met both praise and criticism in the global arena [related A.I. news: "Japanese Animation: A State of Mind (?)"]. Nevertheless regarded internationally as a detailed adaptation of Taiyo Matsumoto's graphic comic book creation--recently re-released by VIZ Media, LLC.--Michael Arias' Tekkon Kinkreet offers a multi-faceted and humble presentation of youth, culture and progress.
Bonus features on the DVD release of Tekkon Kinkreet include a variety of unique opportunities for anime fans to go behind the scenes of the feature film production. The late September 2007 release will reportedly include a 40-minute making-of featurette in addition to filmmaker commentary by the director, Michael Arias. Other extras will include interviews with the producers of the film's original soundtrack, British electronic music group Plaid, as well as an additional interview with Arias. Spoken languages on the DVD release include English and Japanese with English subtitling.
