More on 'The Mr. Men Show'

Most interesting about The Mr. Men Show, with production by Renegade Animation, will be the series structure. According to KidScreen publications, "each episode is a mash-up of five longer-form sketches between one and five minutes long, four 10-second silent shorts in the vein of Charlie Chaplin" in addition to a voiceover introduction. The thematic structure of The Mr. Men Show will thereby involve quick, relevant, physical humor and the swiftly and eagerly awaited consequences. Episodes will be themed for example; whereupon "open[ing] on Mr. Scatterbrain's first day as an air traffic controller, with a quickie interstitial in which Miss Daredevil buzzes his control tower, followed by a longer sketch about Mr. Grumpy's disastrous and short-lived career as a flight attendant, rolling into another short about…" etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

Reportedly arranged in this tight-knit but ultimately wildly varying manner for the sake of multi-platform programming, The Mr. Men Show could in the end contain hundreds of animated shorts that could appear everywhere from cell phones to internet promotions to other digital media platforms.

The program's devotion to humor and comedy over curriculum and education may entice licensors for its presence as an anomaly of sorts, whose creative canvas is unlimited in scope.

Presented in two-dimensional flash animation, The Mr. Men Show will as previously mentioned feature animation production by Renegade Animation. After recently expanding their offices to include a talented pool of artists in the United States Northwest [related A.I. news: "Renegade Animation Opens Portland Studio"], the animators for this animated television series are ready for a broader, more consistent production pipeline. The Mr. Men Show will be animated in Los Angeles. Outside of the group's commercial work, Renegade Animation may be easiest to know from their three seasons of production of the Cartoon Network original animation Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi from a few years ago, as well as the opening credit animation for the hit action/adventure television program Ben 10.

The Mr. Men Show will be written and produced by Kate Boutilier and Eryk Casemiro. Boutilier and Casemiro have achieved success worldwide with television animation properties that include the smartly written Rugrats, the ever creative The Wild Thornberry's as well as the Rugrats in Paris title. The demographic for The Mr. Men Show reportedly includes upper preschool and ages slightly higher, Kids 6-8 some would say would be the key target.

Product licensing for this program is already underway, as Chorion Ltd. has, according to a KidScreen publication, tapped Briefly Stated for an array of junior sleepwear and underwear; ES Originals for fashionable stationary, handbags, backpacks and tote backs for the teen demographic; and Freeze for uniquely designed t-shirts for juniors and young adults. Each of these softline merchandising deals are aimed for retailers, naturally, to help keep the brand fresh in the minds of young consumers. The products should hit store shelves in Fall 2008, a full season before The Mr. Men Show airs on Cartoon Network in the United States.
