The Animated Films of Patrick Smith

With curious, intelligent and recognizable representations of personal identity and the increasing number of behaviors that follow, the animation and the animation direction of Patrick Smith have graced film festivals, television sets and very soon, will find its way to store shelves as well. Coming soon from Blend Films and Microcinema International is Liquid Tales: The Animated Films of Patrick Smith, a collection of animated short films with direction and animation by Smith, whose undeniable devotion to the very real distortion of emotion that warps human consciousness, or vice-versa. Microcinema International is a distribution company whose licensing and selling of independent titles/projects to modern digital channels provides a great way for young artists to gain exposure.

Patrick Smith has directed and animated five award-winning short films in addition to a variety of creative commercials and select animated television projects.

Often recognizable as a distinct array of symbolic stories, Smith's animation is at many times bizarre, warmly comical, morphological and strangely amusing. But most of all, Patrick Smith's animation is imaginative.

Liquid Tales: The Animated Films of Patrick Smith contains five short film animations, all of which have been featured across the country and across the world at animation festivals, winning awards and delighting their viewership many times over.

Short films featured on Liquid Tales includes the highly decorated "Puppet" (2006), where a young man's invented sock puppet devises fear, chaos and self-destruction for its creator; the animated film "Handshake" (2004), a wonderfully directed shot about the entanglements of human relationships, which ultimately revolves around a simple greeting; "Delivery" (2003), which features two friends engaging one another in rage and violence for the sake of a delivered package, discovering what is or is not worth their efforts; "Drink" (2000), the story where a boy explores the universe within himself quite literally, with the assistance of a potion that reveals a list of dynamic characters who in some strange way form one entity; and the animation "Moving Along" (2004), a music video directed by Patrick Smith for the hip-hop group The Planets, whose song about the grittiness of conformity is highly symbolic.

Including the five animations, extra features and more, the domestic release of the compilation Liquid Tales: The Animated Films of Patrick Smith from Microcinema International will be available on April 24th, 2007 for only $20.00. Extras for this particular release include director's commentary on each of the shorts featured, behind-the-scenes pencil test footage, amd more. All of the distortion, emotion and reconfiguration found in human relationships, ideals of success and loneliness come to animation enthusiasts in this succinctly packaged DVD release. Liquid Tales is currently available for pre-order from Microcinema International. Microcinema distributes on-line retail, institutional, educational, libraries, wholesale and international.

The work of Patrick Smith can be found in creative commercials as well as in television animation. From the soft and friendly "Zoloft-Rain" TV spot to the indeed more raucous Drew Carey's Green Screen Show many months ago, from the intelligently sedate pessimism of MTV's Daria to the wonderful little creatures of select Burger King commercials; Patrick Smith is an independent animator with great talent. His animation appears in several film festivals, animation collections and continues to gain distinctions across the globe. Smith is a Senior Thesis advisor at the Pratt Institute in New York, a fellow with the New York Foundation of the Arts, and a curator for multiple international film and animation festivals. His studio is located in Tribeca, New York City.
