New Licenses

This past week, FUNimation Entertainment (Moon Phase, FUNimation Channel) officially announced their plans to distribute a number of recently produced Japanese animated television series' and an OVA as a part of their never-ending endeavor to please their devoted fanbase. Using their connection to online otaku, FUNimation Entertainment announced through a public site their plans to release seven different titles through the 2007 calendar year and certainly on into the 2008-year. Some titles are action and fantasy anime that many fans are anticipating for release soon, other titles are lesser known but still curiously intriguing romance anime still gauged to capture the hearts of its viewers. FUNimation Entertainment continues to grow and diversify their catalogue in a manner that only few experienced industry observers saw coming only recently.

Announced as a part of their FUNimation Kickoff 2007 promotion, the titles announced include the fantasy adventure Ragnarok: the animation, the high school romance anime Suzuka, the science fiction anime series Aquarion, the harem title Shuffle, the popular crossover anime Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, the seasonal OVA My Santa and the supernatural drama Mushishi. FUNimation Entertainment has shown immense growth over the past six to eight months, and with popular re-releases of groundbreaking animation and new releases of quality animation.

FUNimation Entertainment, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Navarre Corporation, is a brand management company and one of the nation's leading independent home video entertainment companies. The company has a proven formula for launching and advancing brands, and manages a full spectrum of rights with its brands including broadcasting, licensing, production, internet, and home video sales and distribution.

Ragnarok
Ragnarok: the animation, appropriately named, is a Japanese animated derivative of the popular massive multiplayer online role playing game of the same name. This title is another one of the many animated television series' that are to be distributed on western shores through FUNimation Entertainment's partnership with GONZO Studios; which, in recent history, has included Speed Grapher, Trinity Blood, Sunabozu as "Desert Punk," Solty Rei and Afro Samurai among many others. The series Ragnarok: the animation in particular, is a full-length animated television program produced in 2004 that traverses the familiar genres of adventure, fantasy and even romance.

The story of two childhood friends and their journey across a magical kingdom of sorcery and adventure--Yuufa and Roan--the anime series Ragnarok: the animation follows these two young adventurers and those that join their party in their quest across the kingdom. Of these two characters, Yuufa is an acolyte class, a healer; while Roan, whose feelings for his longtime friend he still has to come to terms with, is a swordsman. Meeting up with additional characters, from assassins to blacksmiths to hunters, unraveling the mysteries of the Kingdom and of their young lives as well, Yuufa and Roan are about to discover much more than they had ever anticipated. Ragnarok: the animation is presently scheduled for a domestic release in the Fall season of 2007.

Suzuka
The anime television series Suzuka is all about a guy, the girl she likes, and the events he goes through (as only a lovestruck anime male can) in order to prove to himself (and to the girl) that his affection for her is genuine. Akizuki Yamato moves to Tokyo in order to attend high school; staying at his aunt's place, the young man hopes to turn over a new leaf and embark on the beginning of his future. Things seem to be looking up for Akizuki when he sees Suzuka: the school's top athlete, and falls in love in an instant. New city, new school and a new girl, can it get any more interesting than this for our eager protagonist?

Apparently so; Suzuka is a twenty-six episode Japanese animated television program produced in 2005 that covers the genres of sports, harem and teen romance in an endeavor to offer audiences a relatively simple and familiar storyline. Things take a little bit of a twist for Akizuki though, when he discovers that his Aunt's place is a women's-only apartment, when he discovers that Suzuka isn't exactly what some would call warm and friendly, and when he discovers that Suzuka lives next door to him… quite literally. Suzuka is full of the drama and comedy that come with the precarious circumstances of searching to validate one's love that is not mutually accepted. Based on the manga by Kouji Seo, FUNimation has announced its plans to distribute the anime Suzuka in Spring 2007.
