ABC Family to drop JETIX

After 4 and a half years, JETIX will leave ABC Family on Thursday, August 31st 2006. If viewers want to watch their favorite JETIX shows like Power Rangers, W.I.T.C.H., Digimon, and Oban Star-Racers, they will have to tune to Toon Disney after this date. Power Rangers Mystic Force will still air on ABC Kids, Saturdays at 12:30pm ET/11:30am PT in most markets. This fall Power Rangers Mystic Force is slated to also air in the 12:00pm ET/11:00am PT time slot on ABC Kids, replacing Kim Possible.

The block was shortly after Fox and Haim Saban sold Fox Family Worldwide to Disney. The block originally started out as the "Action/Adventure Block", which aired everyday for 2 hours on ABC Family at 7am in March 2002. It had Digimon, Power Rangers Time Force and Medabots on weekdays, Marvel shows on Saturday mornings, Best of Power Rangers on Sundays, and Power Rangers Wild Force replacing Time Force on Fridays. The block later expanded to 5 hours on weekends and brought in new shows like Beyblade and Tokyo Pig, and began digging into the library they acquired from Fox Family with shows like NASCAR Racers and Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends. In 2004, Disney announced a new global programming strategy with the overseas Fox Kids channels, and JETIX debuted in February 2004. The block also debuted on Toon Disney with 2 hours of programming a night from Saturdays - Thursdays. That block quickly expanded to 7 days a week, and then 5 hours a day later that year. The JETIX block can now be seen from weekdays from 7pm - 8am and weekends from 4pm - 8am on Toon Disney, and is expected to add several more hours this fall. JETIX is now the highest rated part of the programming day on Toon Disney, with Power Rangers Mystic Force as the highest rated show on the channel.

To celebrate the block, ABC Family will air a special marathon on the final weekend in August. This marathon will air on Saturday, August 26 and Sunday, August 27, and it will celebrate some of the shows that JETIX is known for, including a sneak peek at the upcoming series "Ying Yang Yo!". New episodes of W.I.T.C.H. and Oban Star-Racers will also debut on the 28th:
